Pride by the Sea

July 16 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Bring the whole family (and a picnic lunch!) down to Waterfront Park for an afternoon of fun! Pride by the Sea will feature a musical performance and sing-along with the Wolfville Queer Community Chorus, family-friendly drag performances, drag story time, and more. There will be lawn games, a photobooth courtesy of the Wolfville Wedding Chapel, and some complimentary refreshments.

Free, family-friendly event

Queen Morticious

Queen Morticious is your local friend and she is secretly living in your basement. She was also your babysitter back in the 90’s. Mort is the Annapolis Valley’s favourite unhinged malignant spirit, but that’s not public knowledge (so keep your mouth shut Deborah).

Queera Bang

A person with pink hair is shown in a head and shoulders shot against a dusky blue background with stars and a crescent moon.

Queera Bang (they/them) is a non-binary performer/producer with the goal of creating more access to queer events, safe spaces, and visibility for youth in rural Nova Scotia. They strive to create shows and spaces that celebrate gender diversity and drag beyond the world of Rupaul. Queera is known for their roller skating antics and ridiculousness on the mic.

Misty Towers

A person in a blue dress and black boots is standing in front of a car and blowing a kiss.

Born spring 2023 , Misty is welcome to Kjipuktuk/Halifax as one of the newest members of the Haus of Towers. She’s hit the scene heels first showcasing her talents. Curves, swerves, and a smile that will shake your nerves. Misty is looking forward to bringing some cheer to a stage near you.

Cookie Cunnigham

Cookie Cunningham is a drag king of flare and style, he likes to shake it up and shake things loose, so always prepare for something to come off. When professor utonium put this one together after the powerpuff girls he mixed, black excellence, sensuality and a whole lot of confidence.

Lumen Lux

A person with tattoos is wearing a white dress and has their back to the camera. They are spinning and holding batons lit on fire.

Lumen Lux is a multifaceted performer who fell in love with the arts at a young age. Beginning her fire journey in 2016, Lumen progressed from spinning fire to eating fire to breathing it. Their many talents also include hooping, flow arts, gogo and burlesque.

Lumen Lux has performed at festivals such as Evolve Music Festival, Fire and Water Cultural Festival, Nocturne, Future Forest, Fredericton Pride and many other events throughout Atlantic Canada.

They have done collaborations with many other artists and have worked with performing organizations such as Serpentine Studios and Luminosity Circus and have recently started producing her own burlesque and drag shows under the alias Lumen Lux Productions.

The Wolfville Queer Community Chorus

A group of eight people are sitting in two rows on the outdoor stairs of a building. They are smiling and wearing bright colours.

The Wolfville Queer Community Choir is a multi-generational group of singers from the 2SLGBTQ+ community that gather each week to make music and connect with one another. Led by Freya Milliken and Katie Hutten.

Twig Newton

A person with facial hair and glasses is smiling into the camera. They are wearing a blue button down shirt.

Twig might be the oldest baby drag king in the province. With a love of fun and a passion to be a support or advocate for all walks of life he takes to stage with an enthusiasm that can’t be missed. A child of the eighties with all the retro to back him up!

Accessibility Notes:

Pride by the Sea will be held at the Wolfville Waterfront Park. May it be noted that Waterfront Park has gravel-based walkways, a wooden board wharf and is subject to general street noise and passersby.

The majority of the park is accessed on grass; however, if you utilize a wheelchair or other mobility supports that do not operate well on grassed areas, the wooden wharf is a great spot to enjoy the show.

There is minimal shade available in the park. Accessible parking and public washrooms are located in a neighbouring building at Rail Town adjacent to the Waterfront Park parking lot.

A low-sensory area will be set up at Pride by the Sea. The area will be under the shade of a tent, and include access to seating, cold drinks and fidget items.

If you want to watch the show but might appreciate something to do with your hands, Valley Pride will provide fidget items at the event.

We invite you to consider this and your own personal ability before attending.

Masks are welcome but not required.

There will be ASL interpretation for this event.

The closest accessible parking is located at the Waterfront Park parking lot.

ASL Interpreter

Mae Striteman (they/them)

Born and raised in Quebec, the ASL/English interpreting program brought Mae (they/them) to the East Coast but the proximity to the ocean is what keeps them here. They have been working in the community since graduating in 2014. They also have experience in video relay service and educational settings but the community has always been their favorite especially sports, theatre and Pride events.
