Beginning Your Path: Providing Affirming 2S/LGBTQIA+ Healthcare

FreeThis workshop will cover the basics of gender inclusive language, pronouns, actionable allyship and how to provide 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming care. This workshop is open to anyone but may contain specific language or actions oriented to those working in the healthcare field.

Garry Dart (they/She/He) is a queer, genderfluid, Newfoundlander who strives for systemic change, through advocacy, activism, and use of de-colonial and anti-racist practices. They have worked and volunteered for many 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations in St. John’s, Halifax and Ottawa, on community, provincial and national levels including with prideHealth, ACNS, MAX Ottawa, and PFLAG Canada for many years. They have an honours BSc in Ecology and Conservation Biology, an honours BA in Psychology, a graduate certificate in advanced training in affirmative therapy for trans communities, as well as a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology.
They have run several local and national 2SLGBTQIA+ conferences and given countless workshops and guest lectures. Most notably, she Managed the National HIV Anti-Stigma ‘POZitivity’ Campaign including the ‘Slay Stigma Canadian Tour’ with Trinity K. Bone’t from RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2019, has been guest lecturer at University of Toronto, Dalhousie, St. Anne, Acadia, StFX, & St. Mary’s and provided workshops for unions, professional colleges, and associations across the country.
This panel will be held on Acadia University campus in BAC 141.

- Building access: Both upper and lower entrances have accessibility buttons and ramp access to the building. The building has ramps and elevators.
- Parking: both parking lots have a limited number of accessible spaces. Additional parking is available at the Festival Theatre parking lot, though this is at a farther distance from the venue. Parking at the Baptist Church is discouraged as their lot is strictly enforced: they will tow any vehicles without a permit.
